According to Microsoft, there should be a slimmed-down Office 2010.
The name should be Office 2010 Starter Edition. Much information about the version is not yet known. The version is intended to replace Microsoft Works as a free variant.

The range of functions will be reduced accordingly, but the Word and Excel formats can be opened and edited, otherwise this program would not be needed.
