Amazon is working on new tablets and Kindle phones

Foxconn is said to produce the company's first smartphone

Internet giant Amazon http://amazon.com should have a lot more in the pipeline for 2012. Rumor has it that they want to penetrate the smartphone market with a "Kindle Phone". In addition, the Android-based "Kindle Fire" tablet could have three successors in the summer and come up with additional models in the fall.

The Seattle-based company has to step up anyway, because with the Nexus 7, Google has made it clear that the fight for supremacy in digital entertainment content is being taken extremely seriously.

If you believe the speculations, then Amazon remains true to the seven-inch format for the time being. All three summer releases therefore rely on these handy dimensions and otherwise differ in the technical scope. The probably cheapest version will offer a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and do without a camera. The other two variants offer a somewhat sharper picture with 1280 x 800 pixels and support video telephony. The most expensive edition also comes on the market with an LTE module.

The Kindle series could get another new addition in the fourth quarter. An 8,9-inch model is to appear just in time for the Christmas business. Its screen has a size of 1.920 x 1.200 pixels. The rumor wave is fueled by Richard Shim, an analyst with NPD DisplayResearch http://displayresearch.com citing the supply chain. He contradicts the statements of an unnamed informant who stated in mid-May that Amazon had abandoned plans for an 8,9-inch tablet in favor of a 10,1-inch model.

Two anonymous sources reported to the medium that the company is working with the Chinese manufacturer Foxconn, which is also responsible for the final production of Apple's iDevices. The purchase of Intellectual Ventures Management LLC could also be interpreted as an indication. With this acquisition, Amazon now has an additional portfolio of more than 35.000 patents.
