Facebook creates confusion with community pages

Profiles, pages and groups added another feature

Facebook adds another function to its existing page offers - profiles, pages and groups. Community pages can now also be created. However, this creates a bit of confusion. Community fan pages are now being added to the existing pages that a Facebook user can become a fan of.

orThe new feature is very similar to the existing fan pages, but differs from them in one point. It is intended for so-called "unofficial" pages, which are often brought into being by users to support certain topics of a social or political nature. An example would be "Can this brick have more fans than xy". The community pages should now be used for such purposes.

Community rights

Another difference to the existing fan pages is the assignment of rights to the community pages. According to Facebook, the administration of such a community page should be handed over to the Facebook user community from a certain degree of popularity - in other words, the pages then resemble a wiki principle.
In contrast to the new community pages, "official" fan pages - for example from companies or organizations - should remain in the hands of the brand owners. The community pages would offer users the opportunity to express their enthusiasm or their commitment to certain things and topics, argues Facebook.
