Huawei Nova 2, Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 and Sony Xperia X Compact

While looking for a smartphone that fits comfortably in the hand (max. 5 inches) and costs no more than 250 euros, I came across the following smartphone. Neither should the smartphones have any serious disadvantages such as a bad camera or a weak battery. Our editorial selection fell on the devices Huawei Nova 2, Samsung Galaxy A3 2017 and Sony Xperia X Compact. Now let's look into more detail.

 

Furthermore, all three devices get an update to Android 8 Oreo and can therefore be used for a few more years. 

First, let's take a look at the Sony Xperia X Compact.

Sony Xperia X Compact

The smartphone has been on the market since August 2016. So the oldest smartphone in the test field. At the market launch, it was not a high-end device that the compact class from Sony promised otherwise. It's also not as chic and classy as its predecessor. The advantages are a strong battery, good performance and a good camera. Due to the drop in prices, the smartphone is available for between 219 and 239 euros including shipping. At Sony, I have the feeling that you pay a little more for the brand.

 

Samsung Galaxy A3 2017

Now we come to the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017, released in 2017 (of course), but in January ;-) I own this smartphone myself and bought it a year ago at a bargain price for 199 € from Saturn Online. If you place a special value on price-performance ratio - especially the price - ratio, you cannot ignore the Samsung Galaxy A3 2017. It is currently available for 169 euros. I don't think a glass back is an advantage, it looks nice, but if it falls down, it's anything but chic. The next weak point is the 16 GB of storage space. There is a hybrid SIM, just insert the memory card and the problem is solved, unfortunately not entirely. You can move apps to the SD card, but not all apps can support this function. In addition, pictures or videos (media) are stored in a distributed manner on the internal and external memory. But who can live with it is well served with the A3. Further advantages are the long battery life, a good camera, a lot of equipment, good workmanship and certified according to IP68.

 

Huawei Nova 2

We come to the Huawei Nova 2. It came on the market in July 2017. At exactly 5 inches, it is the largest in the field.

The dimensions are certainly at the limits of what can still be understood as handy, but at least at the depth of 6,9 mm it can score.

It has a noble aluminum housing, no back made of Gals ;-), the finger pressure sensor is well positioned on the back in the middle. Full HD resolution with a pixel density of 443 ppi. Another important point is the storage capacity of the devices.

3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage

Huawei Nova 2 is clearly ahead here.

A plus point with the Nova 2 is the front camera, which has 20 megapixels more than the rear camera, which only has 12 megapixels. In the camera sector in particular, such cheap cameras cannot really keep up with the high-end devices, they are just not that cheap and mostly not handy.

In terms of performance, it is also possible to play with the Nova 2, at least that is what many tests say.

Like the A3 and the X Compact, it also has a hybrid SIM slot, whereby with 64 GB of internal memory you should or can get along longer without a memory card.

Now I come to the price. The current price on June 15.06.2018, 241 is 2 euros including shipping at Amazon. As of today, the Nova 250, the most expensive test device, is still less than XNUMX euros.

If the price should drop a bit in the next few days and months, then it is really a bargain and already offers a very good price-performance ratio.

And finally ...

You can't really go wrong with the Nova 2 and the Samsung A3. The X Compact is currently still too expensive for the price. 

If you value the price, you should get the Samsung A3. But if you take a lot of selfies and need more storage space, the Nova 2 is my recommendation.
