This summer, the Berlin communications specialist AVM launched a new firmware version for the FRITZ!Box models 7390, 7270 and 7240. After the success of the many additional functions in the FRITZ! The official firmware is now available in the laboratory. From the extended parental controls and the DECT repeater function to the full support of IPv6, the range of functions is consistently expanded by the free upgrade. Information about all new functions can be found at www.avm.de. The upgrade for the FRITZ!Box* 7270 and 7240 is available for immediate download for the FRITZ!Box* 7390 will follow soon.

Child safety with new filter functions

The FRITZ!Box's existing parental controls, which are used to set surfing times, have expanded filter options. Ports of Internet applications such as file sharing can be blocked. The new filter function for websites using the list from the Federal Testing Agency for Media Harmful to Minors (BPjM) offers protection from indexed websites. This blacklist can be individually expanded to include additional Internet addresses. In addition, harmless websites can be stored in a whitelist to only allow their use. Since the parental controls are directly in the FRITZ!Box* is used, it basically works for all devices that have the FRITZ!Box* get internet access. This also includes game consoles, set-top boxes or smartphones in the home network. Individual filter settings are possible for the different network devices.

Future-proof thanks to IPv6 compatibility

With the upgrade you get FRITZ!Box* full support for IPv6, the upcoming version of the Internet Protocol. With the use of IPv6, the technical advantages of the new protocol are also available. The user receives from the Internet provider not just a single IP address for the entire network, but an entire subnet with many public IP addresses. Existing services such as P2P, VPN or video conferences are becoming more convenient and a variety of new applications such as Smart Grid are much easier with IPv6. Support for Dual Stack Lite (DS Lite) ensures a smooth transition to IPv6: IPv4 remote sites remain accessible even via a pure IPv6 connection.

Expansion with the DECT repeater function

The operating range for cordless telephone calls can be significantly expanded using the DECT repeater function. With one click, the FRITZ!Box models 7390, 7270 (v3) and 7240 can be used as DECT repeaters. Unlike conventional DECT repeaters, the FRITZ!Box* securely encrypted calls. In addition, all additional functions such as HD telephony, web radio, e-mail or podcasts are available on the handsets, even when using a repeater.

FRITZ! App Fon - integrating smartphones into the home network is child's play

With FRITZ!App Fon, iPhones and Android smartphones are integrated into the home network. This means users can make calls at home using their cell phones over the landline network. With the FRITZ!Box upgrade, setting up the popular app is now even easier: FRITZ!App Fon fully automatically sets up the required IP telephone entry in the FRITZ!Box* and the user can make calls immediately. The FRITZ!App Fon can even be used with FRITZ!Box devices at different locations.

Photos, music and more available in the entire home network and the Internet

The new NAS (Network Attached Storage) functionality allows music, images and videos to be used across the entire network. The shares of the USB storage devices in the home network and on the Internet can have different passwords. This means access without a password is possible in the home network, while a password is required for access from the Internet. Contents of the FRITZ!Box* Managed storage can be searched quickly and conveniently in the browser via fritz.nas with the new firmware.

Switch easily to other FRITZ! Box models

The change from one FRITZ!Box* on the other hand, it will be particularly easy in the future. Automatically sets the FRITZ!Box* all required settings such as internet access data for the takeover. You can also individually choose which additional settings should be adopted. This can be, for example, the telephone book or the information for push service and port approvals.
