The new Internet Explorer comes in a 32- and 64-bit version, which no longer differ much in terms of speed. IE 10 requires Windows 7 with Service Pack 1. Windows XP and Vista get nothing.
It is worth taking a look at Internet Explorer, but the important thing to note is that IE10 overwrites the older version of Internet Explorer. And if you just want to test and keep the old Internet Explorer, you shouldn't install it on a productive system.
