Microsoft Safety Scanner is a free security tool that performs computer scans on demand and removes viruses, spyware, and other malware. It is compatible with existing antivirus software.

Note:
Microsoft Safety Scanner will expire 10 days after download. To run a scan again with the latest anti-malware definitions, the Microsoft Safety Scanner must be downloaded and run again. Microsoft Safety Scanner is not a substitute for an antivirus program that offers constant protection.

Microsoft Safety Scanner offers three options for scanning for malware.

Quick check:
Areas of the system that are likely to contain malicious software are checked.

Full review:
Checked the whole system. Depending on the system, this can take several hours.

Custom verification:
In addition to the quick scan, the contents of a user-specified folder are checked.

System Requirements:
Operating system: Windows 7; Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP.
A computer with a CPU frequency of at least 500 MHz and at least 256 MB of RAM.
VGA display with a resolution of at least 800x600.
200 MB of available hard disk space.
