Brazil, India and Vietnam lead the way in sending spam

Security, the cloud security company, presents its spam report for January and February 2010. The analysis of the worldwide spam volume is based on the five million spam mails found during this period, which were sent from around a million different IP addresses. From this data, Panda determined the most active countries in the world when sending spam:

As the leader of the inglorious list, Brazil holds its own with almost 14 percent of all spam mails,Panda Security introduces spam analysis for January and February 2010 followed by India, Vietnam, USA and Russia. After all, 2,17 percent of advertising waste comes from Germany.

The report also lists the cities from which a particularly large amount of spam was sent. According to this, most of the unwanted advertising waste comes from Seoul, closely followed by Hanoi, New Delhi, Bogotá and São Paulo.
Spam e-mails are still one of the most important distribution channels for malware. Either malware such as viruses, worms or Trojans are transmitted directly with the message, or the emails contain links to false and sometimes contaminated websites. The example of the top spam mailer Brazil shows how easily users can still be seduced: Here too, spam mailing was primarily used to spread malware or to sell illegal products. Videos or photos of Brazilian women were used to lure the spam e-mails - apparently still a successful method. (mh)
