Printing costs: enormous savings potential for SMEs

Konica Minolta wants to continue to grow with consulting services

Konica Minolta sees itself as a winner of the financial and economic crisis. While all other printer manufacturers had to accept losses, they were able to expand their own market share, explains Johannes Bischof, Managing Director of Konica Minolta Business Solutions Austria http://www.konicaminolta.at, in conversation with pressetext. The predicted operating result is expected to be exceeded by 29,1 percent. In Austria, the number of units sold increased by 1,6 percent.

Focus on printing costs
In any case, the trend towards general savings could be optimally served with the company's own printer portfolio and the consolidation services offered, said Bischof. And the savings potential for SMEs is enormous, according to Konica Minolta. On average, around one million printouts are made each year in SMEs. A further complicating factor for cost control and device management is that companies often use a large number of multifunctional printers from different manufacturers. "In companies with 100 output devices, there are up to 40 different models," explains Bischof.
In order to help companies with their IT consolidation, Konica Minolta is relying on a new service program with which the management of heterogeneous printer landscapes can be optimized. However, not only large corporations and medium-sized companies should benefit from the savings potential that Konica Minolta claims to be up to 30 percent. "Consolidation already pays off from ten output devices", Bischof also aims at smaller companies.

In addition to the services it offers, the group also wants to absorb the general drop in prices for multifunctional systems by encouraging customers to opt for higher-performance products more and more frequently. "What used to be taken over by in-house printers is increasingly moving to workgroup devices and printers in the desktop area. In the high-end area, on the other hand, we are relying on a new device type with the bizhub Press C8000 that can compete with the quality of offset printing," explains Marketing Manager Wolfgang Schoeffel.
The new Konica Minolta flagship will be at this year's IPEX 2010 http://www.ipex.org/ to be presented in Birmingham. The production printing system offers a resolution of up to 1.200 dpi and 8-bit color depth. In terms of printing speed, the C8000 can print up to 80 pages per minute. The monthly print volume is given as around 500.000 pages per machine.
