Excel 2010: Split text

Icon_Excel10_33x32In Excel there is the function "Text in Columns" with this function you can quickly and easily split information that is in a cell into columns. The following tip shows how to quickly get text deserts into a structured table.

 

The text in this example is in A1. The problem is that the text is in one cell. The aim is to get the date, time and event in the respective columns. Since the information is separated by spaces, you can use the "Text in columns" function here.

1. Step:

Select cell (text).

2. Step: 

Data> Text in Columns

Then the text conversion wizard opens.

3. Step:

The hook at Separated set. If you select "Fixed Width", you can separate columns in the preview with a click.

4. Step:

The hook at spaces set. Further separators are tab stops, semicolons, commas or a self-defined separator.

5. Step:

Here you can assign a data format to the respective columns, but also assign the standard format.
