TuneUp Utilities 2009 The new features

Since 1996, when the development of TuneUp 97 began, TuneUp Utilities have become one of the most successful utilities for maintenance and system optimization on the German market.

In the past few years we have reported regularly on the current versions and in this article we want to take a closer look at the new features of the current version of TuneUp Utilities 2009.

All functions can be called from a common start interface.
This is made easier by the division into 7 categories with at least 25 modules.
Interventions in the operating system are monitored by the "TuneUp Rescue Center" and can thus be reversed.
In the upper right area of the program there are three buttons that house the "TuneUp Rescue Center", the "TuneUp Update Wizard" as well as settings and help.
In addition to optimization, care and maintenance, the TuneUp Styler also offers the option of comfortably changing the appearance of the graphical user interface.

The new features of TuneUp Utilities 2009

The new start page

The start page has been completely redesigned and contains information about the status of the computer. If problems are identified, information is output here and can be rectified directly.
The start page also shows whether there have been any new startup programs in Windows since TuneUp Utilities was last started.

TuneUp Speed Optimizer
Incorrect settings or unnecessary services slow down most systems, the TuneUp Speed Optimizer detects unnecessary background programs and incorrect settings.
In this way, the Internet connection can be optimally set or a large part of the optimizations can be carried out very quickly with just one click.
In addition, the TuneUp Speed Optimizer offers suggestions for further accelerating the system.

TuneUp Shortcut Cleaner
The TuneUp Shortcut Cleaner checks whether all shortcuts are still valid and simply deletes orphaned ones at the push of a button.
The empty folders in the start menu are also removed at the same time. At the same time, TuneUp Shortcut Cleaner searches programs that are still used frequently and cleans up the list of recently opened files.

TuneUp Styler
With the TuneUp Styler it is easy to change the appearance of the graphical user interface.
Everything from symbols to the login screen can be changed.
The Vista logo animation that appears before registration can now also be changed.
Appealing animations can be downloaded from the program from the TuneUp website.

TuneUp Uninstall Manager
The Uninstall Manager has been completely redesigned and works much faster.
Programs that have not been used for a long time, which take up unnecessary storage space and possibly slow down the entire system, are displayed and can be uninstalled if necessary.

TuneUp Startup Manager
All automatically starting programs are displayed here and described with informative information and newly added autostart applications are highlighted.
This makes it easier to decide whether or not such a program is necessary. Unknown programs can be reported directly via a link.
The tasks scheduled when the system is started are now also listed in TuneUp StartUp Manager. These are used more and more frequently, especially in Vista, for the automatic start of programs.

Support of the Opera browser

The Opera browser is now fully supported and, for example, the number of speed dial entries can easily be changed, the standard search engines can be conveniently selected and the fast back and forth navigation can be switched on again.
With the Internet optimization, the performance of Opera is individually tailored to the Internet access. The Opera Cache is offered for deletion in the Gain Storage Space area.

Further improvements
In addition to all the new functions, there are a number of less visible improvements, such as tooltips in the main program and useful little things such as significantly more problems found in the TuneUp Registry Cleaner and a more precise progress display for TuneUp Drive Defrag.
The biggest improvements were in the completely revised installation mechanism and the significantly improved update technology.

The TuneUp Utilities 2009 have increased significantly again in the new version.
Inexperienced users who want to change and optimize their system are taken by the hand with information on the respective setting and, thanks to the additional protection of the Rescue Center, can change settings relatively safely, which would otherwise only be possible via detours and with very good knowledge of the system.
But even the advanced user will like the comfortable and clear program interface to test settings that would otherwise only be possible through time-consuming interventions in the Windows system files.
