Spotify - now also on the web

Spotify has been around for a long time as a program for Windows and Mac. There is also an app for mobile devices that run on the iOS, Android, Symbian, BlackBerry and Windows Phone operating systems. However, these cost money every month and the music is streamed directly from the Internet if you do not make various settings. The only exception are the new Telekom tariffs, in which the streaming of the music service is not counted towards the data volume. This option will soon also be bookable for existing telecommunications contracts. (As of November 2012)

So far, a Spotify account was enough to listen to free music. A Facebook account is required for the new function. It is practically part of the Facebook apps. If you visit the official website Spotify.com you won't find a link to the beta, but you can find the internet app on the Spotify Facebook page.

Another minus point for the new Spotify offer on the Internet are the limited functions. So far, Spotify has only included a few functions in its offer. Only a search, "What's New", the artist radio, the playlists and a display of what other Facebook friends are listening to are already integrated. Thus, the website is very much like a copy of the Spotify tablet apps. There is hope, however, that Spotify will integrate further functions before the final version. This idea definitely has potential. Most Spotify users are under 30 years of age and therefore certainly also have a Facebook account. However, Spotify has to come up with something to hold its own against the big competitors of Google and Amazon in the future.

My conclusion is that the new Spotify website is well-rounded. It makes it easier to quickly listen to music with friends and at smaller parties. It's straightforward and you can quickly find the functions you are looking for. The playlists and settings that have been made on the smartphone or computer can also be found immediately.
