Vista - Remove hidden file information from documents

Vista - vista_security.png Remove hidden file information from documents

In many documents, the file properties contain information such as the name of the creator, the last modification date, as well as information on the computer name, etc.
This is useful for internal needs, as these so-called tags can make searching for files easier.

When forwarding these documents, however, it is not absolutely desirable to give the recipient access to this information.

Windows Vista offers as opposed to Windows XP a pretty easy way to use these tags
subsequently removed from files. This works for many file types but not all
eg not with txt and rtf files.
With txt files, Windows Vista saves the information as an additional NTFS stream in the file system.

In the example we are using a Word document.

How do I remove this file information?
Select the corresponding file in Explorer and right-click the Features .
In the Properties of the file choose the tab Details.
All information stored in the file is listed here.

At the very bottom of the details screen, click on the link

Remove properties and personal information.

We now have two options for editing this file information.

1.
We leave the marking unchanged
"Make a copy with all possible properties removed".

fileinfos_3.jpg

This will make a copy of the file without this information, in the style of

Filename-copy.doc
This could then be used for forwarding and the original with all information remains unaffected.

2.
We mark the entry
"Remove the following properties from this file ".

Now certain entries or all of them can be removed by ticking the check mark in front of the
corresponding values are set.

A third option is to edit the information displayed in the lower area of the folder window.

When adding several properties, several entries can be separated by a semicolon.
