Windows 10 take a screenshot with the Snipping Tool

Windows 10 brings its own snipping tool on board

Windows 10 Tips - Snipping Tool

If you just want to take a screenshot, you already have a few tools to choose from. In this tip I want to introduce Microsoft's Snipping Tool and the keyboard shortcuts for the program so that you can work effectively with the tool. Then let's start ...

The quick guide gives you a nice introduction:

  • To start the Snipping Tool, simply use the Windows key and type in snip, then Windows suggests the program.

The little tool is quite clear and consists of the options: New, Mode, Delay, Cancel and Options. Basically everything is self-explanatory.

Under the modes you have the following options:

  • Free cutting

  • Rectangular cut

  • Cut out window

  • Cut out full screen

Under the menu item "Delay", screenshots can be created that require a delay, e.g. the context menu must first be opened before a screenshot can be created.

After creating it, you can still change the screenshot as you wish under Edit.

Once that is done, you can save the screenshot with the key combination Ctrl + s.

If you like to work with keyboard shortcuts, you can also use the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Take a picture of the entire screen with the "Print" button. If the Snipping Tool is open, the entire screen is automatically opened in the Snipping Tool.

  • Take a photo of the active window with the buttons Alt hold down and then the Print button

  • But if you don't want to use a different program, i.e. the Snipping Tool, then you use the above key combinations as usual and then, for example, open the Paint program, then simply insert the picture with Ctrl + v in the open Paint window.

With this knowledge you can create screenshots very easily and quickly.
