Windows 10 - set the taskbar to second monitor

If you have a second monitor available, your work will be much easier. The additional screen makes juggling between different programs and open windows much more pleasant. However, by default, the taskbar is also displayed in full on the second screen on the additional screen. Windows 10 offers three predefined settings to customize the display of the taskbar.

Customize the taskbar display on the second screen:

Open the system settings with the key combination Windows button + i

Choose now Personalization and there the submenu Taskbar.

In the right area scroll down to the settings Multiple advertisements.

Customize the taskbar display on the second screen

With the switch Show the taskbar on all display devices the taskbar on the additional screen can be completely deactivated.

The option Taskbar buttons show on offers three options

  1. All taskbars
The taskbar is displayed on the auxiliary screen in the same way as on the main screen

  2. Main taskbar and taskbar with an open window
This displays the start menu and the task view on the additional screen, supplemented by the symbols of the programs currently open on the second screen.
This allows programs hidden by other windows to be assigned to the additional screen without a doubt.

  3. Taskbar with an open window
Here, at least on my system, I couldn't make out any difference to point 2.

There are also options for labeling the system tray icons

  1. Always hide labels
    Basically only symbols are displayed.

  2. Whenever the taskbar is full
As soon as the taskbar is full, the labels disappear in favor of a better display

  3. No
The program title is always displayed here. Regardless of how full the taskbar is.

With the right combination, you can get a little more overview when using several monitors intensively.
