Windows 11 take screenshots with keyboard shortcuts and the snipping tool

Who does not know it, take a quick picture of the screen and record what is displayed as a screenshot.
But how did that work, what was the key combination again and what other options do I have?

 

 

 

Screen photos are quickly created with three key combinations.
But sometimes even a simple key combination doesn't work. The problems are many. Subsequently installed programs that also provide key combinations are annoying or simply the multiple keys on the small keyboards.
On my convertible, for example, the print key is an additional function on the right Shift key, which blocks a key combination including the print key.
But there is still the on-board means Snipping tool which is already preinstalled in Windows 11/10. With this, screenshots can be created very comfortably.

Windows key + Shift + S

By specifying this key combination, the screen darkens and the Cursor* becomes a pointer. The pointer can now be used to select the part of the screen that should be photographed.
The screenshot is automatically copied to the clipboard and can then be pasted and edited in a graphics program. Start the program and use the key combination CTRL + V insert. If you don't have an extra graphics program, simply use the Windows own program Paint.


Alt + print

Pressing the buttons at the same time only activates the active windows copied to the clipboard and can now be opened in a graphics program.


Windows Key + Print

If you press this key combination at the same time, the entire screen is displayed as a file in the directory Pictures / screenshots saved.

Create screenshots with Snippingtool

Enter "Snipping" in the start menu and open the Snipping Tool or press Windows key + Shift key + S and a floating window at the top opens. This has 4 options:

1. Cut out the rectangle
2. Cut out free
3. Cut out the window
4. Cut out full screen

Interesting with the option Cut out full screen is the fact that when using several desktops they are photographed completely next to each other.

No matter which option you choose, the screenshot will be opened in the Snipping Tool.
The tool cannot keep up with real image editing functions, but it is always sufficient for quick, comfortable screenshots.
Other functions are, for example, the time-controlled recording of screenshots.
The only storage formats available are * .png, * .jpeg. * .gif.

Conclusion

Try it out.
If you only take a screenshot every now and then, you don't need a special tool. The on-board resources are always sufficient for this.
However, if you often work with screenshots, you cannot avoid specialized tools. These usually offer an incredible number of options for taking screenshots, but also for post-processing.
