It won't be long before Windows 7 will officially be released for sale. And many computer enthusiasts read articles about the new features of Windows 7 and wonder can I upgrade to my XP Windows 7? Owners of Vista recently had to reinstall everything because a new installation was required from XP or older versions to Windows Vista.

 

 

Upgrading from an older version to a newer one with all programs, files and settings is called In-place upgrade. This is only possible with Vista SP1 or Vista SP2 and only if the architecture is the same. That means a 32-bit Vista version can only be upgraded to a 32-bit Windows 7. You can't go from 32 bit to 64 bit and vice versa.

To illustrate the whole thing, I created a table:
