Microsoft added the option to integrate dynamic designs under Windows 7.
As soon as they are available, new background images are automatically downloaded via RSS feed and displayed on the desktop.
In this Windows 7 tip we describe the functionality and use of dynamic designs.

Many users are familiar with an RSS feed (Really Simple Syndication) from websites that offer their users an easy way to be informed about changes on the website quickly and without having to visit them.
This is often offered by news sites or blogs and this technique takes advantage of dynamic designs.

An installed and selected dynamic design automatically downloads new desktop backgrounds available for the design via RSS, saves the images in a special folder and automatically displays them on the desktop.
Dynamic designs consist only of JPEG files and, according to Microsoft, the service is protected so that only secure updates get to the desktop.

Available dynamic designs are, for example, the dynamic design "Films from Paramount Pictures" and "Bing Maps Aerial Photography Design: United States"
 

 

 

 

 

The Dynamic Theme "Films from Paramount Pictures" Automatically loads new backgrounds from the latest Paramount Pictures movies such as Thor, True Grit, Kung Fu Panda 2, Super 8, and Transformers 3 at the time of this writing.
Please note that some of the images included in this design are not suitable for children (PG-13 rating or above).

 

 

 

 

 

The compilation of Bing Maps aerial photographs delivers breathtaking bird's eye views of the USA on the desktop.

ZYou can find the installed themes by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Customize.

If you don't like the predefined interval for changing the desktop background, you can adjust it.
Right-click on the desktop and choose Customize.
Then click the desktop background (at the very bottom) and click the "Change Image All" list to choose how fast you want the slideshow images to change. Save the changes.

 

 

Windows 7 Themes can only be used on Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate.

Instead of photos, you'll see a black screen
As a logged-in guest user, a dynamic design is not applied. In order for the design to be applied, you have to be logged in either as an administrator or as a normal user.
Even if the connection speed is slow, you may still see a black screen until the wallpapers are downloaded.
Mozilla Firefox users must right-click on the desktop, then click Customize and select the dynamic theme for it to apply.

 

In the customization window, the Dynamic Design is displayed as "Unsaved Design"
This is because when settings or changes are made to the design, a temporary, unsaved design is created. To change that, right click on "Unsaved Design" and select "Save Design".
