Problems and solutions with the Windows 7 problem recording

Many PC problems are difficult to explain, especially if the level of knowledge is poor. The rather unknown Windows 7 problem recording system helps here, with it, steps in the operation can be recorded, commented on and passed on.

What exactly is the problem record doing?

Problem recording can be used to automatically record certain steps taken on the computer. This also includes a text description of the items that were clicked. A picture of the screen (screenshot) is created for each individual click. When all the steps have been recorded, everything can be saved to a file. This file can be passed on and thus offer possible helpers a concrete approach to solving the problem.

Use Windows 7 problem recording

The Windows 7 problem recording is actually called Problem Steps Recorder and therefore the easiest way to start is by clicking on the Click start button, Enter psr in the search field and confirm with Enter. A narrow program window opens that doesn't leave many questions unanswered.
The only interesting button is start recording, the other control elements such as stop recording or add comments are only activated during operation.

It would also be important to run the program with administrator rights, since programs that are to be recorded also make use of them and otherwise problems may arise but need not. You can easily do this in the settings that are hidden under the small black arrow next to the help symbol. There you will find the menu item Execute as administrator.
However, the Windows 7 problem recording may indicate this.
The storage location for the recording can also be specified in the settings.

In order to record undesired behavior of the PC, start the recording with Start recording and goes through the steps on the PC that are causing the problem.
A comment can be sent to all steps via Add comment inserted.

To do this, use the mouse to mark the part of the screen for which a comment is to be written and enter the desired text in the field Mark and comment on the problem then click OK. If everything is recorded click on Stop recording and save the file.
This file is saved as a zip saved, has the file extension mht and can be opened by double-clicking in a browser such as Internet Explorer.

Why in the browser?
The * .mht files is a text format developed by Microsoft that saves all the content of a website in a single file. While texts are stored legibly, binary data such as images and graphics are stored in BASE64 coding. This format overcomes the problem that when saving an HTML page, graphics and other features represented on it must be saved separately.

Basically that's it, passing it on as a single file is easy, as it can be sent by email or passed on to a speci on a USB stick.
