Windows 7 brings with it Aero Snap some new features. The automatic one
Maximizing when docking windows to the edge of the screen is actually a very pleasant thing, but the new window management could disturb one or the other while working. This article describes how to turn this effect off.

With the button Apply the change to Aero Snap will take effect. All windows can now be moved to the edge of any size without maximizing them.
