Before Windows 7 is released, a few questions often arise. The first question is usually, can I install Windows 7 on my old computer? First you should look at the processor. For Windows 7 a 32- or 64-bit processor is required.

At least 32 gigabytes are required for the 16-bit version and at least 64 gigabytes are required for the 20-bit version.

System requirements for Windows 7 at a glance:

  • 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
  • 1 GB for 32-bit and 2 GB of RAM for 64-bit
  • 16 GB with 32-bit and 20 GB with 64-bit available space
  • DirectX 9 capable graphics card with 128 MB memory (to use Aero)
  • DVD-R / W drive

These system requirements are independent of the Windows 7 version.

Maximum working memory is 4 GB memory with the 32-bit version.
The 64-bit version is supported 192 GB working memory in the Professional and Ultimate version.
The 64-bit version Windows 7 Home Premium supports only 16 GB of RAM.
