Is my computer compatible with Windows 7?

The date for the replacement of Windows Vista as the current operating system is approaching.
Windows 7 may appear on the market during Christmas business or it is already when reading this article and the question arises

"Is my computer actually suitable for Windows 7 or do I have to invest in better hardware again?"

As with Windows Vista, Microsoft gives the user a tool called Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to answer this question.

Windows 7, largely based on Windows Vista, will likely have somewhat more moderate requirements. Based on the Windows 7 RC the following system requirements result

  • 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
  • 1 GB RAM for the 32 bit version
    2 GB RAM for the 64 bit version
  • 16 GB available hard disk space 32-bit version
    20 GB available hard disk space 64-bit version
  • DirectX 9 capable graphics card with 128 MB memory (to use Aero)
  • DVD-R / W drive
  • Internet connection

The 7 Windows Upgrade Advisor Although it is an English-language tool, it is also self-explanatory for those who are not familiar with the language.
The download of the tool is approx. 6,3 MB, the installation requires approx. 20 MB of free hard drive space and requires the .NET 2.0 Framework or higher if the Upgrade Advisor is started on a Windows XP system.

 

 

System requirements:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows XP Service Pack 2

Once installed, the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor briefly checks for updates and presents a brief information screen.

After clicking Start check it takes a few minutes for all the required information to be gathered.
In a report, which is divided into three areas

  1. system requirements
  2. Devices
  3. Program

problems found and a possible solution are described.
This can be saved as an .mht or html report.
