Windows 8
An outlook on the Windows 7 successor

In the first presentations of the Windows 7 successor with the code name Windows 8, significant changes to the user interface were introduced.
The previously known universal usability has been optimized in Windows 8 to include support for touch-enabled hardware. Windows 8 should serve the entire range of the latest device generations, whether tablets, notebooks or Pcs up to large screens with or without keyboard or mouse - everything should be able to be used under Windows 8.

Windows 8 will experience a comprehensive change in the design of the user interface, the previous design will be replaced by a "tile-shaped" design, which is based on the interface of Windows Phone 7.
In addition to the use of all conventional programs, Windows 8 should also be expandable with apps, which offers hardware manufacturers and developers new possibilities.
It remains to be seen whether the code name Windows 8 will stay or whether it will end up being Windows 2011 or Windows 2010.

Windows 8 supports both x86 and ARM-based chip architectures. Chip manufacturers such as AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments announced their first plans for a cooperation with Microsoft in January.

Some highlights of "Windows 8":

  • New design of the start screen: The Windows Start menu has been replaced by a customizable, scalable full-screen view of apps.
  • Tiles with notifications: Users get the latest information about their apps at a glance.
  • Natural and easy switching between active apps.
  • Apps can be easily and conveniently placed, reduced or enlarged on the side of the screen.
  • Apps use HTML5 and JavaScriptto get the most out of your PC's performance.
  • Touch optimization for fast surfing: In combination with hardware acceleration and an even more powerful Internet Explorer 10.
