The Windows 8 Developer Preview is now available for download in the Windows Dev Center.windows 8 download
Interested parties who want to get an insight into the new Windows 8 can download and install different versions here.
Windows 8 is said to have already been downloaded 500.000 times, according to Steve Ballmer at the Build Developer Conference.
The Building Windows 8 video has over 6 million views, so there is great interest.

The Windows 8 Developer Preview is primarily aimed exclusively at software developers, but any interested user can also install it and get a first look at the upcoming Windows version.
The Windows Developer Preview are versions that are still in the development phase and have not yet reached beta status.
So it is not a system that should be used in a productive environment, as not everything has been implemented yet and malfunctions can occur.
It is advisable to install the Windows 8 Developer Preview on a computer that does not have any other operating systems that are used productively or, alternatively, to opt for virtualization.

System Requirements


Windows-8 Developer Preview works with the same hardware as under Windows Vista and Windows-7

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit).
  • 16 GB of available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
  • DirectX 9 graphics card with WDDM 1.0 driver or higher.
  • To use touch input, a screen that supports multi-touch is required.



Notes on installing the Windows 8 Developer Preview

Windows Developer Preview cannot be uninstalled at the moment!
To use a previously installed system, it must be restored or reinstalled.
