Windows new Task Manager
As reported some time ago, Windows 8 was released as a developer preview. The Task Manager under Windows is probably one of the most frequently used tools to end a task. The new Task Manager has become clearer and offers many new features, which I will briefly discuss here.
When the Task Manager is started for the first time, a small window is displayed in which the relevant tasks can be ended quickly and easily. By clicking on More details the Task Manager is displayed with all functions.
Further tabs now appear which contain additional information.
Under the rider Our Process all applications, structured according to application, background and Windows processes, are output.
Microsoft gives the user a lot more information here than with Windows 7.
Programs with a low memory load are shown with the status Suspended displayed. In this way, it can be quickly recognized whether or not terminating a task relieves the system. Programs are also highlighted in color. The more intense the background, the more stressful the application is for the system.
With a short click on the arrows in front of the corresponding applications, their dependencies can be displayed and the task can be terminated if necessary. This makes it easier to decide whether a task is important or rather unimportant.
Under the rider Performance the Task Manager clearly shows the current utilization of the hardware, such as CPU, memory, hard drives, Ethernet, WLAN and Bluetooth.
The rider is very interesting App History. Here you can quickly see how many resources an application has required in a certain period of time. Above all, this can be used to locate resource-hungry applications.
Another rider is Startups. All applications that are executed when Windows starts are listed here.
If several users are working in parallel under Windows, the tab Users whose currently running applications are displayed and the corresponding user is disconnected.
The two remaining riders Details and Services, provide information about the running applications and the services of the system.
With a click with the right mouse button on the desired task, the point Open file location to be selected. This opens the path to the previously selected task in Explorer and marks it.
Conclusion
The technically and visually improved Task Manager in Windows 8 brings many good approaches with it. Microsoft has taken a big step in the right direction and has given the user a good tool.
