An unnecessarily long delay period is built into XP for opening the start menu.
The reaction time can be shortened by making a registry entry.
How do I change the response time of the start menu?
Start >> run >> regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Control Panel \ Desktop search
In the right window MenuShowDelay open with a double click.
The value MenuShowDelay on 0 (zero) put.
From now on the start menu opens immediately.
