Reset group policies to their initial state

Windows XP Pro (not available in the home version) has put a powerful weapon in the hand of the user with admin rights via the GPOs to make settings in the registry, which sometimes backfires if used improperly.
This can lead to the fact that you lock yourself out in this way and then only know how to help yourself with the format command.

It doesn't have to be.

Here a trick helps to get Windows to remove these faulty entries from the registry and replace them with standard settings, as with a freshly installed system.

These settings are saved in the file "registry.in."which under % windir% \ system32 \ grouppolicy \ machine and if something has also been set for a user, under % windir% \ system32 \ grouppolicy \ user can be found.


Method 1:

An registry.in. Copy the file of a freshly installed Windows, or a backup of this file made during / after the installation into the folder (replace the "Old people") and this by entering gpupdate /strength read into the registry.
But who thinks / knows to create a backup (s) before making changes to the GPOs.

Method 2:

This file in the folder "machine"Save somewhere on the hard drive as a copy. If there is also one in the" user "folder, save it too.
Then the original file (s), not the fuses open with a text editor of your choice.

About CTRL + A mark the text and write something in it e.g. "anything"and save.

Start -> Run -> Input -> gpedit.msc


The following error message appears ...

Close the window and then the group policies open with many warning messages ...

Now the defective file "registry.in."and delete the group policies again via ...

 

Start -> Run -> Input -> gpedit.msc

 

..call.

Now the group policies start without "grumbling" and all values ​​in it are back to "Not configured".
