If you want to dynamically adapt the headers in Word to the respective current chapter headings, this is possible with a StyleRef field. This is a very useful function, especially for extensive scientific work such as diploma theses, etc. Since this is somewhat hidden in the menu, the following is a description of the process that is necessary to automatically get the formatted heading 1 of the chapters in the header.

Thank you, such tips are just great. Alone you would search forever until you got it and if you don't need it every day you forget it far too quickly

Hallo,
the instructions are great, within a few minutes I was able to format my thesis correctly. Now I only have the problem that there is nothing in the header on two pages and I just can't manage that the respective chapter heading is automatically there. What can be the reason? Maybe someone can help me.
Thank you and LG, Simone -
Hello Simone,
the problem should actually be narrowed down a bit. It can be due to many little things. If, for example, no numbering is given in front of the heading, the respective header remains empty. Otherwise you can do a lot with a page break. Maybe take a look at the following tip: -
Thank you, your contribution helped me a lot

Hallo,
great instructions, worked immediately. Thanks for that! Is it also possible to display the numbering of the headings?I would like the form:
1. Chapter 1.1 subchaptersIs that possible?
-
The tip is really great and it worked. But if I then insert the table of contents at the top of my document through references, "Table of Contents" is NOT displayed in the headers of the table of contents, even though I have marked this as Heading 1 as well.
How do I fix the problem? (Important for my bachelor thesis!)
Thanks in advance!

So actually everything has to appear in the header that was defined as heading 1 or 2 etc. On the one hand, it may be that you have not defined the table of contents as heading 1. Or there is a pagination problem. There is a "Link to Previous" button for this purpose. You can find these when you edit the header and footer under the Draft tab. The solutions come to mind in no time.

Super!! Thanks very much!!!

Hello really great explanation, but unfortunately I have a problem! Even though I have NOT checked the box "insert paragraph number", heading 1 appears in the header with chapter number! Can someone explain to me how I can get the number off? That would be great!
-
Strangely, I only see the chapter number, but not the chapter name.
What could be the reason? I have formatted the headings! -
Super helpful explanation, thank you very much!

Great class! Great! Great! That throws me forward hard. I would have looked for it for more hours. Thanks very much!

Hello forum! This dynamic header is excellent - I keep using it. Unfortunately I have a problem: with ONE of these headers the corresponding entry does not appear in the navigation bar. But I urgently need her there.
Background: the relevant chapter was in a separate Word Doc. created (with the same settings as the main document) and transferred via copy & paste. The title designation ATITEL2 is also consistent. Nevertheless, the chapter is continued under the chapter existing before the insertion - so it can only be called up under the name of this old chapter. In the Word document itself, however, each page header is correctly displayed with the label from ATITEL2.
Can someone help me? So: how do I get the entry into the navigation bar correctly? If possible, please send the answer to "xxxxxxxx@web.de" - because whether I can find it here is another question!
Greetings Jens-Uwe -

Should there be an answer again, we would of course also like to read it here in the forum.Others might also want to benefit from it.
Therefore, mail address removed and good luck.
