Good to know! I just don't get the connection with this thread. Have you been wrong about the topic? -)

Oh man, I had completely forgotten to admit the last status. That's not my style at all. I always find it pretty bad myself when someone doesn't give any more feedback when a tip has helped. Better late than never
I just deactivated the Defender's service. That didn't solve the original problem, but it closed the case for me.

Stupid question: how do I uninstall Defender? It is not listed in the software list, nor is it listed for the functions.
But actually this is only a workaround and not a real solution, especially if I have to pay attention to whether the Defender is reinstalled with every Windows update.
I would be interested in the cause of the problem. Doesn't anyone have any idea where the culprit is or how to find out? -
First of all, thank you very much for the help!
Unfortunately it is exactly the same phenomenon when I open the Defender via MSASCui.exe. The window is closed again after about 1 second. Is there a tool that I can use to check which process is exiting Defender?
The Windows firewall is deactivated for me anyway.
PS: If we don't hear each other before Christmas, I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that: the active security tools are Avast 5.0.677 and the free Comodo package 5.01 (only the firewall is normally activated).
Even if I deactivate Avast and Comodo, the Defender window closes. And as far as I know, it can be turned off in this window, right?
This problem already appeared with Vista (I had Antivir installed instead of Avast) and dragged itself to Windows 7.So your tip would be to simply switch off Defender in the registry?
PS: I can see right now that I missed a few words in the first post. Wasn't there even an edit button?

Hi all,
I have had an unsolved problem for a long time, which I now finally want to get to the bottom of. So far, Google has spat out useless.
When I open Windows Defender, it starts checking briefly, but then the window always closes after about 1 second. It doesn't matter how I start the Defender (e.g. via the control panel or the maintenance center).
Does anyone happen to know any advice? Best thanks in advance!

hi spark pluck,
thanks for the hint. but I posted the problem on 27.02.2007/26.07.2007/XNUMX and used the search beforehand. the linked post is from XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX. so he wasn't there yet
Before I had written something here, I also googled and found the instructions described and thus at least got the tastaur. the problem is that with the md95257 you can get to the innards from above (i.e. under the keyboard), and with the md96500 only from below. So it is structured completely differently and unfortunately these instructions do not really help.
the clou with the md96500 is that you have to remove the dvd drive, as freez described ..but thank you anyway for your courageous commitment over the years!
best regards, S.IMperator

hi freez!
man i would not have thought that there would be another answer to this question. thank you very much for your instructions!
But that really seems to be quite an effort to screw the nb on properly. I think I will leave that for now .. in the meantime I had already sent in my nb to have it cleaned. was still guaranteed but at some point I will probably not get around it ... and the instructions will probably also be useful to others!but is also a mess by medion to screw things together so that you can't really get hold of anything
well you can't change itGreetings, S.IMperator

I just wanted to tell you that I had sent the computer in. it was still guaranteed (3 years). previously i had simply deleted the partitions with the windows cd. now he's finally back. the ram was replaced and the fan cleaned, now the computer is running wonderfully again and purring like a kitten thanks again for all the nice help!

hello,
does someone have a tip on how to unscrew a medion notebook "md 96500" so that you can get to the fan?
I can get the keyboard off, but it doesn't look like I can get to it from there. if you loosen all the screws from below, you can lift the housing a little, but that's about it. i found another screw under the cd-rom drawer. but I don't know for the best sake how to unscrew it. with the best will in the world there is no way to get there.maybe someone has come across this or a similar model and has a tip for me. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any reasonable instructions on the internet ...
greetings, S.IMperator
edit: damn it, I made a mistake in the headline. you can't change that yourself!? -)

well, then take the bolt without any errors and try to install your system "on good LUCK" it could definitely work
I am now wondering if a virus or worm can break the ram ?! I would of course prefer not to completely reinstall ...Quoteand don't have to dismantle your Schleppi!
Cleaning the fan doesn't hurt

It should be noted, however, that a memory test takes many hours and not just 1 hour! :)the computer always ran out of approx. 50% of the entire test. and according to memtest faq. is this probably due to overheating. paulemann had the assumption right at the beginning of the thread ...
-
So I tried that with the individual bars. here is a summary:
both bars: with test # 6 approx. 100 errors
Bar1 alone: with test # 5 only 1 error, with test # 6 approx. 65 errors
bar2 alone: no errors until test # 7,in all three runs, the computer went out on its own at approximately test # 7.
What I now find strange about the result is that there were about 35 errors. because both together 100, at number 1 65 and at number 2 none !! it's funny.
I can't avoid taking a closer look at my fan.
I have to research more closely how I can get the box open. if someone happens to have a tip on how to properly unscrew my medion notebook (md 96500), let me know ... -
should have read the memtest faq before asking. I've done it now
- as you already said, only test again with one bar.
- if the computer dies in the middle of the test, it may be due to overheating. The stupid thing is still that the box is screwed so strangely that I can't get to the fan to check / clean itYou can read the whole thing here if someone is interested
MemTest Support @ HCI Designwell then, first happy screwing ...

memtest had already found approx. 46 errors at 6% overall progress and test # 32 (moving inversions, 100 bit pattern). the previous tests did not show any errors. at 55% overall progress the computer has now run out again. luckily i had taken notes.
so'n shit! slowly but surely I get ne kriese!can swapping that with the bolt really bring something? even if one is broken?
edit: I had now tested with memtest version 1.6 and not 3.5. but this will probably not make the ram whole again ...

i was able to save all important data without any further problems. that makes me easier.
I now wanted to start reinstalling the system. however, the computer has simply run out again at various points during the windows setup. namely before the correct installation / formatting has started.
that shouldn't happen, should it? is maybe something scrap on the hardware?
