Hi,
I have a problem with my XP Profesional.
A few weeks ago I upgraded my computer: new motherboard (Epox), new CPU (AMD 2000+), new memory (256 DDRRAM). I installed XP for this. Until then, no problems.
Recently my computer has not booted properly. But only when booting for the first time. That means mostly in the morning when I switch on the computer for the first time. Then the error message appears: ntoskrnl.exe is missing or defective. As soon as I switch off the computer completely (the power button on the back), the computer starts up normally. And from this point on, the computer boots normally.
Have already searched through all the tips in google and have already tried the following:
Started the repair with the XP CD -> no success.
SFC / SCANNOW initiated -> no success
In safe mode I then copied or overwritten the ntoskrnl.exe separately in windows / system32 -> no success
From http://www.themexp.org downloaded a new ntoskrnl.exe and replaced -> no success.
Now I don't know what to do next.
I would be very grateful for any further tip.
ntoskrnl.exe is missing or defective

Hello
Take a look at this article.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314477
A couple of solutions are shown.

Hi,
yes, I already know the site.
I have already used the third method (overwrite ntoskrnl.exe).
I did the 1st method in part by having the installation repaired. But it was of no use.

Hello take a closer look at the boot ini if you have dualbootsystemhast which partition xp refers to, if you only have one partition and have formatted it with ntfs, then you have to download a tool, ntfsdos there you can access your ntfs system. For FAT, FAT32 system normal check bootdisk and boot.ini. Greetings PeterN

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your tips.
The Boot.ini is OK according to Microsoft. I have FAT32.
But I think the problem is somewhere else.
I switch off my computer and monitor completely via the power strip, which means that my system is disconnected from the voltage. Only when the computer has shut down, of course. There are switches on the power strips.
I have now found that if I do not operate the switch on the connector strip, ie do not disconnect the complete system from the voltage, the computer starts up normally when booting for the first time. Without the ntoskrnl.exe error.
Maybe the problem is with the power supply from the computer. Perhaps the computer is getting a voltage spike that it cannot cope with. But then I don't understand why this error message occurs. -
Well there are sometimes such phenomena but I also have my system with such a socket strip. Do the BIOS settings change? If so, then maybe your battery is too weak. or your record has a little damage. I would rule out power supply overload, unless you have 200W and all Molex plugs are assigned. Did you have another BS on it before? Greetings Peter

Hi Peter,
I will check that with the BIOS setting.
I upgraded my computer. Epox Mothboard 8K3A (something like that), AMD 2000+, and 256 DDR (333). R.A.M
The motherboard is brand new Lalso. The power supply is also new. 300W. Because I had a 235 W part before, it was too weak, the computer wouldn't start up.
I previously had windows 98 on my hard drive. Over there I installed XP (overwrite with data and so on).
It just occurred to me that the problem occurred a few days later. Strangely, shortly after I ran this boot acceleration tool. BootXP was the name of the thing. That's why I had the OS repaired using the XP CD. Because I first suspected the BotXP. It can't be that.
I would be very grateful for further tips.

I've tried ide bios settings to check.
But it does not work.
Immediately after switching it on, there is such a strange noise. A high-pitched whirring sound.
Then I will know. The computer will not start up.
Then the bios data are displayed, i.e. normal booting and finally the error message: ntoskrnl.exe is missing or defective.
Until then, keep making this shrill noise.
Until then I can press Del any way I want, he won't let me into the bios.
If I turn the computer off and then back in again, it boots up normally without this sound. -
Shrill whirring sounds not good in such things. Did you update from 98 to XP? An update is not recommended in my opinion because all the little * .dll`s and such. Try again to completely reinstall but don't know if that helps. Don't you have an old hard drive lying around somewhere and test it? Otherwise swap your old HDD (guarantee) Greetings

Hi Peter,
the hard drive is 3 years old, so no guarantee. I also don't know who can do without their record for a few days and lend it to me.
I tend towards the hardware problem. I'll open the computer tomorrow morning and listen to where this whirring comes from.
-
Hallo,
I opened the computer today. Immediately there was a whirring and then later an error message.
The CPU fan was running all the time.
I mean that the noise is coming from the hard drive (or from near the platter). Is there a good and simple way to test or prove this?
I mean now without having to buy a new one or borrowing from anyone for a few days. -
To panic.
Now I've borrowed a hard drive with Win98 on it and then
comes this whirring again.
But I noticed that 98 continues to boot up anyway. Then have
switched off in time because I didn't want the new hardware
is recognized.
So it's not the record.
I disconnected and reconnected the connectors. I do not know how to continue.
I have no choice but to take the computer to a computer shop. Preferably also to the place where I bought the new motherboard. -
8O Well, I don't know what to do next. If the whirring does not come from the record and you cannot classify it correctly, then actually better take it away and let us know when the problem has been solved. I'm interested in it. Greetings Peter

Hello
Have you ever taken a closer look at your power supply unit?
Fan (whirring), does it still perform at full capacity?Michael
-
Hi,
after I unplugged and reinserted all the plugs last night, this error no longer occurred. Especially the small plug with the reset, speaker and LED line etc. I forgot that last time.
If the computer continues to run so well in the near future, that will probably have been it.To be on the safe side, I also replaced the power supply today.

Error is easy to fix. Just start up your PC without a keyboard. Shut down again, turn on the keyboard and lo and behold, it works again ...

Whenever I lead hovh I get the error message that the file ntoskrnl.exe fails or is damaged then I read what you can do but with me on xp there is no boot.ini
ps.:I also have win 89 on my first partitzion and on the second win xp if someone says something
Thank you

Hello
You also have a Boot.ini.

I've had this problem before. I did it because I thought my IDE cable was broken, my computer disassembled and reassembled. To be on the safe side, I had Windows repaired before it could load Windows.
Then everything went smoothly again!bye

Had the problem in a similar form on a conversion system. It turned out that the processor got too warm (> 65 degrees, Athlon 1000, without overclocking). Then he got a little confused and couldn't find one or the other file. After changing the processor fan, everything was fine!
