Hi all!
For 2 days I have not been able to start my laptop with the Vista operating system. The problem started when my laptop crashed and I had to restart it by manually turning it off. When I switched on the laptop, I got the message that Windows did not shut down properly. I pressed "Start Windows normally", but the Vista loading bar only appeared briefly, then the laptop suddenly restarted and I was back at the beginning. In the end I started it in safe mode, where I had various options, then clicked the "System Repair" option because it said that the start would then be repaired automatically. (I only saw later that a system restore would have been a better option ...)
In any case, the system repair did not work, but I have the problem that it only brings the following message when starting:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \ Boot \ BCD
Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid os entry.
I already tried to insert my recovery DVD and then start the PC, but without success. Now I don't know what to do anymore ... Do I need another CD? But I don't have a Vista CD. Can you simply request it from Asus or how does it work? Otherwise I am grateful for all suggestions!

Hello
Download a Vista repair CD: Vista Emergency / Recovery CD 32-Bit - Dr. Windows
So it should work.

Thanks for your promising answer * Blue *!
I've tried it but unfortunately the CD is not recognized at all. Still comes the same message with no change. -
Booting from CD has been stopped in the BIOS?
-
So sorry I haven't been there for a while ...
As I said, nothing starts when I insert the CD.
I honestly don't know whether starting from CD is set in the BIOS. How would I do that or see if this is the case?
Thx for answer!

Hello Ceed,
usually the corresponding function is called in the BIOS Boot sequence (or similar). In my BIOS it is in the range Advanced BIOS features listed. Here, the boot sequence may have to be changed on CD-ROM and then on hard disk. To do this, you use the corresponding drive letters. If there are several specifications in your BIOS, the first has to be changed (in my BIOS this is First Boot Device). You can access the BIOS itself immediately after starting the computer (possibly by pressing several times), usually with the DEL key or a function key. You can check your settings quite safely (as long as you don't make any haphazard changes).

So when I press "F2" I get to the "Bios Setup Utility" and when I press "F4" I get to the "Bios Rom Easy Flash Utility" menu.
With the latter I have listed the different drives, usually E: is my drive, but when I open that I end up on my hard drive D: and when I open D: I end up with my actual C :.
Can you please tell me exactly how I set it up with the CD. I've never done that before and I'm a bit haphazard to be honest.
Sorry for my stupidity

Hello Ceed,
before I repeat what others have already described great: Change boot order / boot sequence in the BIOS - Paules-PC-Forum.de
I think the author has given some easy-to-understand examples.

So, here I am again!
First of all, thank you Mannitwo, because I can now start the CD without any problems!
Now I wanted to do a system restore but I get the following error message:
"To perform an offline system restore, you must specify the Windows installation you want to restore.
For example, if you want to restore the installation under C: \ Windows, enter the following command:
rstrui.exe / OFFLINE: C: \ Windows "
If I click OK I'm back in the menu ... Can someone translate that for me, please?
-
Did you also enter that: rstrui.exe / OFFLINE: C: \ Windows
-
Where do I have to enter that? I don't see an input field
-
Yes, I really don't know where to enter this now ... Can someone help me? Would be great
-
Hello
System restore is started in safe mode with administrator rights.
Then enter the command: rstrui.exe at the command prompt. -

I have the following problem:
yesterday evening laptop switched off normally, switched on this morning and further than the loading bar of vista it does not come. black screen, no mouse, etc.
have now repaired any errors with the help of the recovery function of samsung, then it boots up, but after a restart the same problem as at the beginning. black screen
Please help me... -
Hello and welcome to the forum
Try starting the laptop with the Vista CD inserted, then select the Repair option.
-
got it somehow with a lot of tinkering =)
so I'm not so stupid after all ...
thanks anyway, blue
-
I'm glad you got it back.
Maybe you could still get together as you did it?gruß

the recovery program from samsung must have been that fixed the error.
but it took a while until the laptop was ready to work.
first ran a recovery, because that didn't work, I let something bigger run over it (it said something like: it could happen that programs but no user data are deleted)
i took the risk, it worked and the laptop runs perfectly again without any loss.Lg
