Backup and sync tool PureSync available in version 3.0

Now with backup and synchronization options for open files, email notification after job execution and automatic recognition of moved files.

Jumping Bytes releases version 3.0 of the backup and synchronization software PureSync. The freeware synchronizes files and folders, creates automatic backups on the hard drive or external data carriers and loads photos from the digital camera onto the PC. The Pro version is suitable for business use and offers additional functions, such as support for the FTP protocol, backup and synchronization of open files or the option of executing jobs using different user profiles.

"With this update, we have responded more closely to the needs of users who use PureSync in a network," says Christoph Güntner, owner of Jumping Bytes. "Especially the backup of open files on Windows servers and the possibility of an automatic notification email after synchronization were frequent requests from our users."

Backup and synchronization of open files possible
From now on, open files can also be copied and backed up on all Windows operating systems. Especially practical if the user wants to save an Outlook file, for example, without closing Outlook. The same applies to an Excel spreadsheet: the user can continue working on his calculation while it is being saved. PureSync Pro users can now also copy open files to an FTP server. This function runs under all Windows versions from Windows XP and all Windows servers from Server 2003. On Windows servers (from 2003), for example, backups of databases can be created while users are accessing them. This function is only available in the Professional Edition.

Email notification after job execution
In the settings, many actions can be defined that are started after a job has been executed, e.g. play a sound, start another program or shut down Windows. New in this version: An email with the protocol can now be sent automatically. This is very useful when, for example, jobs are running unattended on a computer or server. Depending on requirements, the log can be sent by email every time a job is executed or only in the event of an error. This function is only available in the Professional Edition.

Recognition of moved files
A real time saver is the ability of PureSync 3.0 to recognize moved files. These are moved in the target folder in the same way as in the original folder. Advantage: The backup is carried out much faster because the file in the old target folder does not have to be deleted and then recreated or copied. One less step. This function is available in both the Free and Professional Editions.

Further detail improvements:
Before executing a job (backup or synchronization), any command (program, starting a script) can be executed, e.g. a network drive can be mapped (connected as a drive) for the planned backup. Then PureSync causes the mapped drive to be disconnected again.
Files that are smaller than a definable number of bytes can be excluded from synchronization or a backup. A “greater than” definition was previously possible.
It is possible to copy files with names (including path) longer than 260 characters.
Editing of the paths that have been defined can now be changed more easily: If, for example, you have defined 20 source paths on drive D: and would like to change them to F:, you do not have to change D: to F: for all 20 paths. PureSync recognizes the intention when changing the first path and asks whether all D: should be replaced with F :.
